StartupWeekend Boise 2011 rescheduled

We are sorry to say that we are pushing the Boise event until September 9, 10 and 11 this year. We had a lot of interest for this summer’s event but found that the most common response was, “Darn, I’m going to be out of town.”

Rather than try to create a great event with only a few diehards, we are going to do this right in the fall.

Notice the date is right at the 10th anniversary of 9/11. We’re going to do something fun for our Veterans and commemorate those fallen that weekend… watch for more details.
If you have already purchased your tickets, you are good to go. If you can’t make it that weekend, no worries, we’ll offer you a full refund.

We are adjusting the price for the September event. The full ticket price will be $75 for professional attendees and $55 for students. You’ll get some discounts for signing up early and those details will be coming soon.

Thanks to all who have shown interest and want to be a part. We’ll make StartupWeekend Boise an event to remember.

StartupWeekender crosses $1M in one month

There is a great write up on a StartupWeekend success story over at TechCrunch.

In less than a month after its nationwide launch on May 14th, peer to peer marketplace Zaarly has crossed $1 million in posted transactions, and commemorated them with a colorful infographic depicting the break down of the early days of Zaarly.

The company’s founding team of Bo Fishback, Eric Koester and Ian Hunter conceived of and built the prototype for Zaarly in February 2011 at Startup Weekend Los Angeles. The company won this competition, raised funding from an all-star list of angels and investors, and then debuted a test run at SXSW in March, where Zaarly processed over $10,000 in transactions in less than 48 hours.

The Ground Floor – Sponsor

We are excited that The Ground Floor in Meridian, Idaho is a sponsor for StartupWeekend Idaho. The Ground Floor Business Incubator is housed in a Historic Downtown Meridian building built in 1913. Due to a fire, the existing commercial business vacated the property. As the owners began repair and construction, the Meridian Development Corporation (the urban renewal agency for Downtown Meridian) was approached about a potential partnership designed to meet one of the urban renewal goals: job creation. The re-purposing of a historical building in the downtown core is helping to lead efforts to create a vibrant destination to live, work and play. By creating this space in Downtown Meridian, the MDC is reinforcing its commitment to sustainability while providing a new future for Downtown. In partnership with Cisco systems, the technology is designed to meet the needs of future growing businesses. All of the Herman Miller furniture and fixtures are constructed with “Cradle to Cradle” materials, welcoming comfort while working in harmony with the environment. Other healthy components of the space are carpet certified by Carpet and Rug Institute’s Green Label Plus certification for volatile organic compound emissions, low VOC paints and natural day-lighting to all interior workstations.
